Jewish Neo-Conservatives

If an American speaks about the fact that the neo-conservatives around Mr. Bush are almost all Jews, he would no doubt be labelled a 'bigot' and 'anti-Semite'. It is pleasant to see that the Israeli daily Haaretz frankly admits the role, mission and Jewish ethnic origin of the neo-conservatives. This should not reflect negatively on all Jews, but let's stop the hypocrisy and admit some facts that are so striking that to deny them is pure self-inflicted blindness

White Man's Burden (Haaretz)

The war in Iraq was conceived by 25 neoconservative intellectuals, most of them Jewish, who are pushing President Bush to change the course of history. Two of them, journalists William Kristol and Charles Krauthammer, say it's possible. But another journalist, Thomas Friedman (not part of the group), is skeptical

Yes, the 'anti-semite' charge is reflexive, like so many other political formulations in our (American) boring, stupid politics. You might have noticed that our recent presidential campaign was largely fought with practially meaningless cliche, particularly on 'dear leader's' side. Feckless.

Alternative media, like blogs must be used to reclaim the English language. No hope that Americans will ever have independent pirate TV to reach the masses. They're stuck with mass media owned by 3-4 plutocrats, believing that this represents 'freedom of speech'. The appearance is maintained by disagreements over 'Mary Cheney', or 'Dan Rather' or 'Swift Boats', but for the real issues a silence prevails.

Thanks for the Italian pirate TV link. Yes, you are right that that won't work in the US. The 'Feds' aggressively track and prosecute broadcast pirates here, even radio. Berlusconi must not feel very threatened if only one out of a hundred-odd pirate stations has been 'arrested'.

Satellite radio might have a little promise here, but basically, the internet is pretty much all we have to work with in the US. Our recent election was a disaster only in the sense that our system is relatively winner-take-all (a pretty big disaster!); people on the 'Blue' side of things are actually much more informed and much more active now than ever (in memory). Bush had to use every filthy trick in the book to win. While establishment media people here dutifully create fog about the internet - over- or under-estimating it - they don't manage to neutralize it that way. The fact is, the political internet in the US is very powerful for the 'resistance' (!) or whatever you want to call us. Aside from being a way to raise money (which is, unfortunately, vital), the 'blogosphere' is an implacable and very noisy media critic. Facts are checked, webs are detangled, etc. in hours or minutes. And incidently, people do discuss real issues. Yes, the internet will only increase in importance here.
